Souvenir DIY: T-Shirt Tote Bag

Vacation T-shirts are an inexpensive, plentiful, easy-to-pack souvenir. And they’re fun! But how many travel tees can a person wear? What if you could turn that shirt into another useful item that still reminds you of your great getaway? Watch the video and follow the instructions below to transform your travel tee into a unique tote bag.

How to Make a T-Shirt Tote Bag

  • T-shirt
  • Large bowl
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

  1. Using the bowl as a template, trace semicircles around the neck and arms of the shirt.
  2. Cut along the lines through the front and back of the shirt.
  3. Along the bottom of the shirt, make cuts perpendicular to the bottom, straight up the shirt. Cuts should be spaced about ½ inch apart and run 5 to 10 inches in length up the shirt.
  4. Starting at one edge of the shirt, tie together two strands at a time until all are tied together.

Make this craft easier by using a tank top for less cutting. For a sturdier bag, take this craft to the next level by sewing the bottom closed instead of tying.
