Capturing Travel Memories in a Bottle

Turn that bag of sand or handful of rocks you collected while on vacation into a beautiful conversation piece to display in your home.

There may be no souvenir more special than a small piece of the ground on which you walked during your travels, whether that be sand or rocks, shells or pinecones. But what to do with that bag of sand or those loose rocks once you’ve arrived back home? Don’t hide them away in some drawer – display them.

Watch this demonstration video to see what we mean.

Now try it yourself!

How to Capture Your Travel Memories in a Bottle:

  • Collected Item
  • Bottle or jar
  • Funnel (if needed)
  • Printed vacation photo
  • Stencil
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Pen
  • String

  1. Fill the bottle or jar with your collected item.
  2. Use the stencil to trace and cut the portion of the vacation photo you’d like to use for the tag.
    • Tip: This image doesn’t have to be the exact location where the collected item was found. Use your favorite photo from the trip or even a group photo!
    • Tip: Feel free to freehand the cutting of this tag.
  3. Complete the tag with vacation information, such as the date, location, who was there, or perhaps something funny that was said.
  4. Poke a hole in the tag and use string to attach it to the bottle/jar.

Note: Collecting rocks, pinecones and other items in national parks is generally prohibited. Consult and observe all local and federal laws. As the saying goes: take only memories, leave only footprints.
