Bullet Journaling 101: Doodling Your Way to Your Bucket List Destination

What’s on your vacation bucket list? With so many options for possible destinations and adventures, it can be difficult to choose just one for your next trip. Bullet journaling can help you organize your travel goals and make important destination decisions.

Recommended supplies (but feel free to use whatever you want!):

  1. Journal
  2. Pens, colored pencils, markers
  3. Washi tape
  4. Stencils
  5. Ruler
  6. Photos, ticket stubs, mementos for an after-the-trip update

One of the fun things about bucket list bullet journaling is that there are endless possibilities for each page, but here are some page ideas to get you started:

  1. Create an icon key so that you can easily label and categorize your destination ideas throughout your journal.
  2. Use a stencil to draw a map for inspiration and fill in some destination options, using the icons from your key to identify each.
  3. Make pros and cons lists to help narrow down the possibilities.
  4. Create inspirational collages of food or activities you want to try while traveling.
  5. Put together a well-organized budget so you know how far your wallet will take you at each destination.

You don’t need to be an amazing artist to reap the benefits of bullet journaling. Here are some tips to help you create the journal pages of your artistic dreams.

  1. Browse online for inspiration. There are plenty of people and resources to learn from. Browse YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest to see what other bullet journalists are doing, and check out [our bullet journal Pinterest board].
  2. If you aren’t confident in your drawing abilities, start by doing everything in pencil and then tracing with pen and markers. That way, you can erase and improve until you’re happy with your work.
  3. Find tutorials and font charts online to help you with your hand lettering. Like all things, fancy calligraphy and brush lettering just take some practice.
