Motherhood is one of the most beautiful things in the world, but as all moms know, it can also be stressful. That’s why it’s important for us moms to take time for ourselves, for self-care and to have a little fun. What better way to do this than to leave the kids at home and go on a girlfriend getaway with other moms? I do this every year, taking a few days to deepen my friendships and enjoy activities with my fellow mothers. Here are four of the best destinations for moms to travel without kids.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas is the tried-and-true ultimate girls’ getaway, but there’s more to Las Vegas than the strip. After landing at McCarran International Airport, pick up your rental car, because you’ll need it on this moms’ getaway!
Your self-care, child-free weekend is the time to splurge on a suite that can accommodate your entire group. A few great options include the ARIA, Villas at the Mirage, or Vdara Hotel. For a more economical option, book a villa at the Holiday Inn Vacation Club Desert Club Resort or a vacation rental through sites like AirBnB.
If you are looking for activities outside of the strip, you can drive 30 minutes out to visit Red Rock Canyon. Take the 13-mile scenic drive and stop along the various look out points to take in the views, or you may choose to go on a short hike like the .75-mile Children’s Discovery Trail. Other options include the 2.2-mile round-trip Keystone Thrust or the longer 2.6 mile Ice Box Canyon Trail. You don’t have to complete the Ice Box Canyon Trail to get the full beauty, especially if you’re traveling in April when the wildflowers are in bloom. Get really adventurous by exploring the desert and riding an ATV through the Nellis Dunes, conquering zip-lining through SlotZilla at Freemont Street, or SkyJump off the Stratosphere Tower.
I know as moms, it’s hard to imagine going to a pool party without kids, but there are plenty of options in Las Vegas to enjoy an adult pool party. Popular options include Tao Beach, Daylight, and Drai’s Beachclub. Into the evening, enjoy one of the many shows on the strip, such as a Cirque du Soleil production.
Sedona, Arizona
To get to Sedona, you can fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. After picking up your rental car, it’s about a two-hour drive to Sedona. Book a two bedroom suite at The Ridge on Sedona Golf Course which sleeps eight, and enjoy gorgeous views of the red rocks.
Enjoy sleeping in while you’re away from the kids, but when you do get up, get out and explore the outdoors on the area’s many hiking trails. My favorite is the 3.2-mile Broken Arrow Trail, but if hiking isn’t your group’s thing, you can take a Pink Jeep Tour and see the same sights.
Sedona is known for its spas and healers, offering some of the worlds’ best therapists to locals and visitors alike. What better place for a spa day than here! You and your fellow moms can have a massage in a traditional room or out in nature. Try this unique experience at L’auberge de Sedona.
No moms’ getaway is complete without the perfect kid-free dinner. Splurge on one of the best restaurants in Sedona by making a reservation at Dahl & Di Luca Ristorante.
