A Couples’ Guide to a Romantic Getaway in Gatlinburg, TN

A Couples’ Guide to a Romantic Getaway in Gatlinburg, TN

Life gets busy, your obligations seem never-ending and surviving life’s obstacles becomes your focus. With all the everyday obligations, finding the time to connect with your significant other can be difficult. While it is totally understandable, being intentional about reconnecting with the one you love is extremely important. Making the time to connect with your significant other is not something you "should" do, it's something you "need" to do.

Ideally, my husband, Art, and I would be able to make time for each other as a couple every day, but unfortunately that isn’t always realistic. That is why taking a trip together to reconnect, even if just for the weekend, is perfect. With another weekend getaway for Art and I in the works, I was reminded of how much I loved our time together in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, almost two years ago.

While in Gatlinburg, we were able to slow down, unplug from our daily commitments and simply focus on each other.  We laughed, held hands as we walked around town and talked about topics other than our daily recaps and responsibilities. It allowed us to truly be in the moment and enjoy each other's company as we explored and enjoyed what Gatlinburg had to offer.

A weekend away together was just what we needed to reconnect!

When was the last time you were able to get away with your special someone? No matter how long it has been since your last couples’ trip, it may just be time to plan another one. If so, consider going to Gatlinburg. After flying into Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS), there is so much for you both to do and enjoy there.

While in Gatlinburg you can visit ...

Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

Showcasing sharks, sea turtles, sting rays, penguins and many other sea animals, this aquarium is not just for kids to enjoy! Add to the fun by experiencing a glass-bottom boat ride that offers a unique way of seeing some of the animals. Did you know that Ripley’s Believe It or Not was established in Gatlinburg in 1918? Now, they have eight attractions in the area, one of which is the Aquarium.

Ole Smoky

Get a true moonshine experience by visiting Ole Smoky Distillery. Home to authentic, working moonshine stills, you will get to see what goes into making moonshine, from beginning to end. You can also enjoy samplings of the various flavors for only $5.

Newfound Gap

Newfound Gap is a mountain pass located near the center of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Situated along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, the state line crosses the gap. This makes for a fun picture of you and your partner in different states. Not only can you get some cool pictures, but there are some pretty trails you can walk through as well.

Cades Cove

Located in Great Smokies, you can enjoy mountain views, wildlife and historical sites as you make your way around the 11-mile, one-way loop. With various places to pull over and park along the way, you can snap some pictures of the beautiful scenery and points of interest, such as Cade’s Cove Missionary Baptist Church, which was founded in 1839.

Guinness World Records Adventure

Love the book? Now you can see it come to life at the Guinness World Records Adventure with unique exhibits and authentic memorabilia, inclusive of cool displays, games (like the Lumberjack Tree Hack) and more. With Art being 6-foot-6, he wanted to see how he measured up against the tallest man in the world. I, on the other hand, had a little too much fun holding up signs and snapping some pics in a lineup of some of the world's tallest and shortest people.

Ripley’s Haunted Adventure

While I am not one that loves to be scared, I am always up for a haunted house. With live actors lurking around every corner, you are sure to scream once or twice (or in my case a hundred times) as you make your way through this creepy mansion. I may have screamed or pulled on Art a little too much during our time there, and he was ready to leave me behind when I got stuck in the maze for a second. But alas, we survived and had fun in the process.

*Note: You can purchase a Combo Pass for the Aquarium and various Ripley attractions for a discounted price.

Ready to plan your trip to Gatlinburg? Remember that no matter where you travel, the most important thing is that you find ways to reconnect with one another.
