5 Things to Do in Myrtle Beach with Kids

5 Things to Do in Myrtle Beach with Kids

Whether you are looking to relax by the beach or take part in various family adventures, Myrtle Beach is the place for you.

Having never been there before and given all that we had heard about it, my family and I made it a point to visit Myrtle Beach over spring break and we loved it! Between the safari that allowed us to cuddle up with tigers and monkeys to our time spent on the Wonder Coaster, we were able to spend quality time together as a family and had a fun time doing it. You can pick up your Alamo rental car at Myrtle Beach International Airport to kick off your adventures.

Our time there was definitely more adventure-driven than it was relaxing, but with so much to do, our goal was to fit in as much fun as possible – and we did just that. With so much to do in Myrtle Beach, here are my top five recommendations for things you should enjoy while you are there.

Myrtle Beach Safari

Home to over 125 wild animals, the T.I.G.E.R.S. Wild Encounters Tour was by far one of the best activities we have ever done as a family, which is why it is first on my list. During our time with the tigers, monkeys, Bubbles the Elephant and other wildlife, we were able to learn more about these animals and create special memories we’ll truly cherish. With the addition of a new night safari which includes feeding adult Bengal tigers, hanging out with Bubbles and toasting marshmallows with a chimpanzee, we’ll definitely want to experience these activities the next time we visit Myrtle Beach. Each tour typically runs once a week, the day tour taking place on Thursday mornings and the night tour on Saturday evenings.

WonderWorks Myrtle Beach

Having never been to WonderWorks, we were curious to see what this was all about. The building itself, an upside-down house, is a big indicator of all the cool and interesting activities you’ll get to enjoy inside. Between the exhibits (such as the imagination lab, far out art gallery, space discovery and more), the ropes challenge course, laser-tag and the wonder coaster, we experienced things we had never done before. Better yet, with all the fun facts and information, the kids (and even me and my husband) also learned something in the process.

Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach

Open 365 days a year, if you want to discover more about sea-life, then the Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach is where you want to be. They offer numerous exhibits that allow you to explore and learn more about these beautiful sea creatures.

My favorite exhibit is the dangerous reef, which is filled with thousands of fish including sharks that you can see through an underwater viewing tunnel. Unique experiences like a sleepover with the sharks and swimming with the Stingrays are also available.

SkyWheel Myrtle Beach

The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is a 187-foot tall Ferris wheel that allows you to get a bird's eye view of the ocean and the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, day or night. Soaring 200 feet above the beach, we were able to see some incredible views!

It was still a bit cold when we visited at the end of March, so I was thankful for their climate-controlled gondolas (which holds up to 6 people).

After your ride on the SkyWheel, make your way onto Pier 14 for some great views and photo opportunities.

Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

When we visit a beach, you typically won’t see us taking a stroll down by the water or walking to a pier, but with beaches as beautiful as they are in Myrtle Beach, how could you not want to explore? Even if you are not a fan of the actual beach, the numerous stores, activities and restaurants along Myrtle Beach Boardwalk offer a myriad of things for your family to enjoy. For those looking for a more relaxing way to enjoy the area, you can also do some fishing from Pier 14.

No matter what your pleasure is (relaxing, fun-filled or a combination of both), Myrtle Beach has something for everyone. We loved our time there and look forward to returning so we can experience even more of the activities that Myrtle Beach has to offer!
