8 Disney Travel Movies to Watch Before Your Next Family Vacation

By Karina Schink and Savannah Salazar

Before summer’s over and kids head back to school, rev those engines and hit the road for one more grand-hoorah getaway—life is a highway, after all. To help you plan your journey, we put together a list of some of the most memorable vacation spots from Disney films, both real and imagined. So, grab a DOLE® whip, sit back in the sun, and send your imagination soaring with these unforgettable destinations.

The Emperor’s New Groove

This hilarious movie showed us that even the most unlikely of duos can become friends and travel buddies. After self-centered Emperor Kuzco gets turned into a llama, he goes on a journey of self-discovery with oddball companion, Pacha, where they encounter attacks from scorpions and panthers, drops over waterfalls, and treacherous climbs up intimidatingly high mountain walls. Their journey together gave them plenty of quality bonding time, though, forcing these one-time adversaries to become the best of friends.

The Even Stevens Movie

Getting to stay at a remote and relaxing island sounds like a dream vacation… well, dream on. The Stevens’ family vacation to Mandelino Island ends up being an unlikely adventure when it turns out their vacation is actually an elaborate reality show. Familial hijinks ensue but hey, it makes for a good television, and an extremely eventful vacation.

Hannah Montana the Movie

Sometimes all you need is a respite from everyday life, even if your everyday life is being a world-famous rock star. That’s exactly what Miley Stewart (better known as Hannah Montana) needs in Hannah Montana the Movie, the big-screen follow-up to the hit Disney Channel series, Hannah Montana. And, even when her faith was shaken, our favorite musical superstar kept her head held high during a family vacation that turned into much more.

The Muppets

We’re getting the band back together! This 2011 gem chronicles the romantic vacation between Mary (Amy Adams) and Gary (Jason Segel) gone awry, as Gary’s best friend and Muppets-obsessed brother, Walter, joins their trip to Los Angeles, only to figure out the Muppets have disbanded and their studio is to be sold to an evil oil baron (maniacal laugh). With show-stopping musical numbers, traveling across the country (by map!) and a plethora of old and new friends, in the end, their vacation was one for the books.
