The Chugach Mountains surround Anchorage, Alaska, the largest town and commercial center in the state. You can explore forests and see glaciers, fjords, and many other sites. After your plane lands at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) and you get a rental car, make sure to check out all the awesome attractions nearby.
The Alamo car rental counter at Anchorage International Airport is near Baggage Claims in the Domestic Terminal. Customers coming in on international flights can reach it by taking the airport bus from the International Terminal. This location is convinient for picking up and droping off the rental vehicle since the airport is only 5 miles southwest of the city. Chugach State Park is one of the largest parks in the United States, covering 700 square miles. The park itself is only about 13 miles from the airport, and it has glaciers, mountains, valleys, and lakes. You can go hiking, fishing, or camping during the spring, summer, or fall. The park has three campgrounds and five picnic sites. Watch for moose, bear, Dall sheep, mountain goats, wolves, lynx, bald eagles, and other wildlife.
The Alaska Botanical Garden is only about 8 miles from the airport, and it features an interpretive nature trail with native Alaska vegetation. Founded in 1991, the Alaska Botanical Garden is continually being expanded.
This overlook is a great spot for joggers, bikers, hikers, skaters, and skiers, offering a panoramic view of the Anchorage skyline. The spot is only 5 miles from the airport, and it's a great place for a stunning vacation selfie.
This museum, located only a mile from the airport, presents the state's distinctive aviation history. It's a great place for families to stretch their legs after a long flight. You can see 21 vintage aircraft, watch short films in a 60-seat theater, and view planes taking off and landing from the observation deck.
The Alaska Zoo is a 30-acre facility that showcases many native wildlife species, as well as a small collection of exotic animals. You'll find the zoo southeast of the city center of Anchorage.
