Honolulu International Airport, which is only about 7.2 miles from Waikiki Discovery Bay, has a surprising number of amenities that travelers can enjoy. The Cultural Gardens give fliers an emotional break by letting them reconnect with nature. The gardens in the Main Terminal Lobby and Y Concourse feature designs from Chinese, Japanese, and Hawaiian culture.
The airport also has several works of art for visitors to enjoy. The Statehood Mosaic Mural located between Lobby 5 and Lobby 6 has more than 8,000 images that honor Hawaii's traditions.

Fort DeRussy, U.S. Army Museum
The U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii, located in Fort DeRussy, has more than a dozen exhibits about the role Hawaii has played in defending the U.S. Visitors learn about how soldiers lived, their equipment, and their training. It also includes a Gallery of Heroes that celebrates recipients of the Medal of Honor or the Distinguished Service Cross.
Honolulu City Ala Wai Golf Course
Honolulu City Ala Wai Golf Course is an 18-hole public course with fabulous views of the ocean, mountains, and Waikiki's skyline. You can schedule a tee time by visiting the course's website. Ala Wai Golf Course has a restaurant, snack bar, driving range, and pro shop.
Ala Wai Promenade
The Ala Wai Promenade gives long-distance travelers opportunities to stretch their legs while they walk along the Ala Wai Canal. After passing McCully Street, you enter the Ala Wai Community Park, which has even more green spaces that can calm frazzled nerves and help you readjust to your time spent in Honolulu.
Waikiki Bay
If you've come to Honolulu to enjoy the ocean, then you will want to visit Waikiki Bay as soon as possible. During the day, people use the beach to sunbathe, play games, and ride their surfboards. At night, you can expect to see hula dancing, pig roasts, and other traditional activities.
Honolulu Zoo
The Honolulu Zoo has more than 1,230 types of animals living on a 42-acre refuge. The zoo got its start in 1876 by King Kalakaua, who wanted a home for his horses and exotic birds. Today, the zoo has deer, chimpanzees, camels, elephants, and other animals. It also has an impressive collection of more than a dozen pieces of art.
