New Orleans Visitor Information
Visit New Orleans, the Mardi Gras central, for a jazz-filled fun time you'll remember for the rest of your life. Culture, history, and nightlife come together to make this tourist spot truly unique.
New Orleans International Airport
The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is about 11 miles from downtown New Orleans, and it offers a host of nonstop domestic and international flights to many European, North American, and Central American destinations. Four concourses and more than a dozen airlines make this a bustling airport. Though travel through the airport lessened after Hurricane Katrina, it has revived and exceeded pre-Katrina numbers.
The French Quarter
No visit to New Orleans is complete without a stop in the French Quarter. Walk down Bourbon Street at night to experience the intense nightlife, stop at Cafe du Monde for some delicious beignets, and walk through the many shops featuring Mardi Gras masks and Voodoo items.
The Garden District
See some of the most gorgeous antebellum houses in Louisiana in the NOLA Garden District. Wide, tree-lined streets perfect for walking down, with grand homes on either side are what you'll experience when you walk through this neighborhood. Take a tour or just explore on your own.
A Swamp Tour
New Orleans is so close to the Louisiana swamps, you definitely need to hop on a boat and take a tour of these stunning waterways. Learn about the flora and fauna, and see some alligators if you get lucky! Airboat tours are the most popular, in part for the tour guides, but if you're brave you should try out a kayak tour. Reaching the swamp tour locations is easier in a rental car from Alamo.
The Cabildo, also known as the Louisiana State Museum, is right in Jackson Square within the French Quarter. This museum is a 1795 building that used to be where the Spanish government resided. As you can imagine, it's full of history and cool exhibits.
Backstreet Cultural Museum
Head to the Tremé neighborhood for the Backstreet Cultural Museum. Here you'll discover a collection of memorabilia, costumes, photographs, and other things distinctly NOLA. This collection is the epitome of NOLA culture, and it gives you a taste of this exciting city, both past and present.
The top attractions in NOLA are only a small piece of what it means to visit this city, so explore as much as you can! You'll never be bored here, guaranteed.
